About this site

This is a single-purpose tool. It works out Statutory Maternity Pay week by week for the UK, and it does nothing else.

Why it exists

Most maternity pay calculators give you one number. The number is not the problem people actually have. The problems are that maternity leave runs 52 weeks while pay runs 39, so the last 13 weeks are unpaid, and that below roughly £216 a week you never receive the headline £194.32 at all because 90% of your earnings is lower. Both facts change how you plan, and both are usually buried in a footnote. Here they are shown in the result and in a week by week schedule you can scroll.

How it is built

Every rate comes from the GOV.UK rates and thresholds page, is listed with its source on the methodology page, and carries the date it was verified. Rates currently stand as verified on 2026-08-14. The calculation is covered by unit tests whose expected values were worked out by hand from that page rather than generated from the code.

The calculator runs entirely in your browser. Nothing you type is sent anywhere. See the privacy policy.

What this is not

It is not an employer, an accountant, or a source of employment advice, and it is not affiliated with HM Revenue and Customs or the Department for Work and Pensions. It does not check whether you have 26 weeks of continuous employment, it does not work out your dates, and it does not deduct tax. If your situation is unusual, or if your employer disputes what you are owed, speak to your HR department, to ACAS, or to Citizens Advice.

How it makes money

Currently it does not. There are no adverts, no affiliate links, no lead forms and no sponsored placements on this site. If that changes, it will be disclosed here first.

Corrections and contact

If a figure is wrong or a new rate has come into force, send the GOV.UK source to hello@maternitypaycalculator.uk and it will be corrected. Corrections to statutory figures are treated as urgent.
