Maternity pay calculators by situation
The Maternity Pay Calculator covers the standard case. These calculators handle the cases that change the answer: tax, dates, a different payment, or a partner.
- Maternity Pay After Tax CalculatorTake-home pay after Income Tax and National Insurance, week by week.
- Maternity Pay Qualifying Week CalculatorYour qualifying week and key dates worked out from your due date.
- Maternity Allowance Test Period CalculatorThe 66-week test period checked, for when SMP is not payable.
- Paternity Pay CalculatorStatutory Paternity Pay for a partner, including the weeks you can take.
- Shared Parental Pay CalculatorSplitting the weeks you have not used between both parents.
- SMP Recovery CalculatorWhat an employer reclaims from HMRC, and the net cost per employee.
Which one do you need?
- Your pay after tax. SMP is taxed through PAYE like normal pay. The Maternity Pay After Tax Calculator shows what lands in your bank account week by week.
- Your dates. The Maternity Pay Qualifying Week Calculator works out the week that decides your SMP from your due date. What that week means is in the qualifying week guide.
- No SMP from your employer. If you are self-employed, recently changed jobs or earn too little, the Maternity Allowance Test Period Calculator checks the 66-week test period behind Maternity Allowance.
- Your partner's pay. Statutory Paternity Pay is a separate entitlement. Use the Paternity Pay Calculator or, if you are splitting leave, the Shared Parental Pay Calculator.
- An employer's costs. Employers reclaim most SMP back from HMRC. The SMP Recovery Calculator shows the reclaim and the net cost; maternity pay for employers covers the rules.
Looking for a scheme instead?
If your employer runs its own maternity scheme (the NHS, teaching, the Civil Service, councils, the police or a private scheme), the employer scheme comparison shows how each one pays across your 52 weeks of leave.
